Kapawi Jungle Lodge - Ecological Reserve

Kapawi Ecolodge and Reserve is located in Pastaza province in the south of the Ecuadorian rainforest. Through an agreement with Achuar communities, The Lodge was built in their territory using traditional architecture and low impact environmental systems.
Kapawi is one of the last places where you can be surrounded by the highest biodiversity of wild animals and beautiful plants, and at the same time you can be in direct contact with Achuar communities, people that really conserve their interesting ancient culture.
The Completed in 1996, Kapawi is the newest of South America's eco-lodges. It is located on the Pastaza river in one of the most remote areas of the Ecuadorian southern Amazon basin. Accessible only by small aircraft, Kapawi is one of the most comfortable bases from which to explore the tropical rain forest.
Accommodations
Isolation from the rest of the world doesn't mean a lack of comfort, at least not in Kapawi. We offer 20 double rooms, each with its private bathroom, sun-heated showers, and electricity provided by photovoltaic system.
Located on the shore of the Kapawi lake, every room has a wide terrace, where you can observe the daily visitors: ducks, humminghbirds, egrets, parrots, or you can listen to the music of the myriad of frogs at night.
Kapawi Lodge serves a tasty combination of International-Ecuadorian food with emphasis on local products. A wide variety of exotic fruits will be offered. Soft drinks, snacks and hot water for coffee and tea are available all day.
The lodge accommodates up to 40 visitors and was built according to the Achuar concept of architecture (not a single nail was used!). Environmentally - friendly methods such as solar energy and trash recycling are also being utilized. A research station is also being conceived as a data center for Achuar culture as well as a biological field station.
The Kapawi Project originated in 1993. The lodge is located in the heart of Ecuador's Achuar Territory, and in 15 years will belong entirely to the Achuar Indians. Kapawi blends the admirable goals of empowerment, environmental protection, and eco-tourism. Kapawi uses solar energy, biodegradable soaps, and recyles. There is no nighttime illumination in order not to disturb the beautiful rainforest that surrounds this unique place.
